Description
Natasha Kumar’s Rasa series is an extension of her fine architectural studies of chhatris, inspired by the stone-carved concentric circles on the underside of the chhatri dome.
Rasa can mean emotion or essence: just as the hypnotising images of the series symbolise the harmony of circling planets, their colours reflect the emotional essence of a mood.
Delicate etching and monoprints on paper with deep colour and textures, Natasha Kumar’s new Rasa collection brings together the abstract and the actual in vivid, hypnotising work that references Mughal architecture and her Indian heritage.
They are the spaces and elements she seeks out on her journeys around North India. The sense of place, rich emotion and meaning that she finds, Natasha brings back to us conveyed through rich colours, intricate design, and subtle and evocative textures. Always with a twist that makes her work unique and exciting.
