Description
A jali window (or jaali) is the term for a perforated stone or latticed screen, with an ornamental calligraphy or geometry pattern. Early work was performed by carving into stone, later the Mughals used marble and semi-precious stones to create inlaid patterns.
Typical in Islamic architecture as well as in Indian architecture, this particular etching was derived from a small screen window in the Maharaja’s seven- storey palace in Jaisalmer.
