Description
A jali (or jaali) is the term for a perforated stone or latticed screen, with an ornamental calligraphy or geometry pattern. Early work was performed by carving into stone, later the Mughals used marble and semi-precious stones to create inlaid patterns.
The Choti Jali (Choti meaning small) window series captures sunlight piercing the intricate stone fretwork of jali windows in the women’s quarters of Kota Palace, Rajasthan.
The Triptych’s are inspired by three windows in Bundi Palace, Rajasthan.
