Description
This is new collection of hand drawn silk-screen prints by Natasha Kumar. They are observations on the cultural roles available to women in India, and their individual and collective journey to empowerment.
Indian Woman #Fired Earth Series
Clay is the foundation of civilization, a vital element in every society’s growth and development. It remains so today in rural India where the formation, dissolution and regeneration of terracotta echoes the central Hindu belief of reincarnation
Working on the potter’s wheel is man’s work, forbidden to women. Their role is the decoration of the pots, adorning them with designs passed from mother to daughter that will protect the contents and purify them for the gods.
