Description
A jali (or jaali) is the term for a perforated stone or latticed screen, with an ornamental calligraphy or geometry pattern. Early work was performed by carving into stone, later the Mughals used marble and semi-precious stones to create inlaid patterns.
The Carved Jali series was inspired by the windows of Bundi Palace in Rajasthan. This Jali particularly reflects both Hindu and Muslim influence combing natural imagery and geometric carving. The rich jewel like colours are drawn from residue of pigment colours on the Palace walls.
